The Cedarburg Strawberry Festival

The Cedarburg Strawberry Festival is another FREE street summer festival that’s always held at the end of June in...you guessed it...Cedarburg! This festival pays homage to the “strawberry” and there is everything from fresh strawberries to strawberry pancakes, strawberries dipped in chocolate, and strawberry shortcake. There’s no shortage of strawberries at this festival!

This is a daytime event held over the course of 3 days – the activities end at around 5-6pm every night, and it is definitely a family-friendly, low-key event that everyone can enjoy!

This festival has the added draw of having an art fair and a plein air art competition combined with an exhibition of the paintings and a sale of such.

My friend Dawn painted these as part of the plein air art exhibit at the Cedarburg Strawberry Festival.

A couple of my friends participated in the plein air art competition, and submitted their paintings for sale – one of them sold for $120!! How exciting!

I almost participated in this event as well, but had to decline because of prior commitments. Probably just as well, I’m not sure my entries would have sold at the exhibit, but it sure would have been fun to participate.

For those of you who don’t know, a plein air art competition, means that you have a certain amount of time to complete a painting within a certain geographical area, and submit it for judging. There were plein air competitions that gave the painters only a few hours to complete a painting, and others that gave them up to a week to compete. No need to be a skilled artist to participate! The more the merrier!

My friend Janet painted this as part of the plein air art exhibit at the Cedarburg Strawberry Festival.

Several of the artisans at the Cedarburg Strawberry Festival are artists selling their original works. I love promoting the sale of local talent!

Other points of interest at this festival are the musicians (nothing too rowdy – you can have a conversation with your friends), the wine, and the open bars along the streets, allowing for plenty of variety with regard to both drinks and food.

Make the day even better by getting to the festival via the Ozaukee Interurban Trail (opens new window), that is unless you plan on eating, drinking or buying too much!
