The Charles Allis Art Museum

The Charles Allis Art Museum is named after the first president of the Allis Chalmers Corporation.

I find it amazing that this was someone’s home at one point, although I did hear that the couple built it with the intention of someday turning it into a art museum for the community.

What a selfless, wonderful gift, don’t you think?

The Charles Allis Museum is located North of the Downtown Area at:

Charles Allis Museum
1801 North Prospect Avenue
Milwaukee, WI 53202
(414) 278-8295
Charles Allis Website (opens new window)

Admission price for adults is $5 for the Charles Allis Museum, however you can purchase one ticket that will give you entry to the Charles Allis Museum, the Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum, and the Pabst Mansion for $11.

I would recommend this as that amounts to a little over $3 for each museum, which makes it well worth the money.

The Charles Allis Museum is available for rentals, and in fact, my brother and his wife had their wedding ceremony there! (opens new window) The setting was warm and intimate, it provided them the flexibility to design their ceremony exactly the way they wanted, and the location was convenient with the reception being located at one of the local Milwaukee Restaurants downtown.

Of course, while the Charles Allis Art Museum is worth touring at least once, I think that the larger appeal is at the Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum across the street. This museum overlooks Lake Michigan, and if you’ve driven along the Milwaukee Lakefront, you’ve probably noticed the ornate garden that reaches from the Villa Terrace at the top of the embankment all the way to the street, and includes statues and a beautiful, perfectly landscaped Italian garden. The garden alone is worth the tour!
