Lakefront Brewery Milwaukee
The Lakefront Brewery Milwaukee Tour is the second brewery tour that I’ve taken in Milwaukee – the Miller Brewery Tour being my first. That’s right...prior to Miller, I was a brewery tour “virgin.” (Well, that’s not even true...I have taken other brewery tours in other cities, but I have to say, Milwaukee does it up right in this area!)
So let’s talk about what sets the Lakefront Brewery Milwaukee Tour apart from the other brewery tours in Milwaukee. Well, first of all, there is a fee to the tour, BUT DON’T LET THAT DETER YOU!!! It’s $7 for an hour long tour, and along with that you get 4 glasses of beer – cups are about 10-12 ounces (don’t quote me folks, I’m totally guessing here!) That may not sound like a lot of beer to you heavy boozers, but for the average person, it’s definitely enough beer! I had dinner afterwards, and didn’t need to order another drink. Now here’s the big draw to this tour...are you ready?...You get to drink the beer while you’re on the tour!!! Oh yes folks, that’s no joke! They start you off with a beer and they have taps set up throughout the tour so you can replenish your drink!! Woooo Hooo!!!!
You won’t find that at Miller or Sprecher!AND at the Lakefront Brewery Milwaukee Tour, you get to select which beer you want to have! All 4 glasses are your choice!! :) I loved that! FYI – go for the Fuel Café Stout Beer – a dark ale brewed with coffee – YUM! Seriously delicious, and not at all heavy, just like they promise. (I believe the claim is that you can drink it and still run a marathon...yeah, I’m not sure about that promise, but it definitely was nice and light!) Now the tour itself, as far as what you actually see regarding the brewing process, isn’t any great shakes...BUT...the tour guides are F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!! We had “Kurt-z” or “Curtsy” however you want to think of him...and he was hilarious! These guys keep you totally entertained throughout the tour – just look how happy my parents were following the tour experience! I’m not going to claim that the beer we were drinking didn’t have SOMETHING to do with the enjoyability factor for this tour, but Kurt-z was funny...he was really funny, and that is definitely the Lakefront Brewery Milwaukee Tour highlight!
This company started quite small several years ago when 2 brothers were brewing beer in their garages, and it’s grown quite a bit since then. I’m particularly impressed with the “green brewing practices” at this facility. You can read all about it at the Lakefront Brewery website (opens new window), or better yet, go on a tour yourself and find out more from the comedic genius of the tour guides! (Uh oh...I’m building them up too much, you’re going to go and think it’s not that funny because of what I’ve said...never mind what I’ve said...the tour is dry and boring...) Lakefront Brewery recycles all of their waste and even works with Will Allen at Growing Power (opens new window) to recycle and/or compost their waste, even down to the glasses you use to drink your beer! Turn in your plastic glass at the end of the tour (which is made of corn and gets composted at Growing Power) and you get a free souvenir glass mug...not too shabby!
All in all, I had a great time on this tour, and so did my parents, and so did everyone else on the tour with us. No need to make reservations unless you have a larger group – just show up! The one thing I would not recommend is staying for the fish fry afterwards, unless you want to see the polka players – I wasn’t there late enough for the show. The fish fry was “ok” in taste, but not the best, and a bit over-priced. But then again, those polka players might jack up the ambiance so much so that it makes it all worth it! :) I hope this information helps you find SOMETHING to do in this great city! Thanks for visiting this site, and please come back again often!
