The Milwaukee Air Show
I LOVE the Milwaukee Air Show!!! I don’t know why this event is so entertaining...I suppose not everyone would be dazzled and delighted by a bunch of planes flying around in the sky, but I sure am!I was actually at the Locust Street Festival this year, but I had no trouble catching a couple of the planes, including the piece de resistance...The Blue Angels! I mean really...isn’t that what we all come for??
Ok, so it’s not JUST about the Blue Angels...there were lots of other planes, fancy schmancy maneuvers, flying formations, and “stunts” in the sky that quite frankly, just scare the Ba-jeebers out of me! Sometimes you really think they won’t be able to make it out of some of those stunts, but thankfully, they always do...well, they do when I’ve gone anyways... Usually the Milwaukee Air Show is held a little later in July, but in 2010 it fell on the same weekend as Milwaukee Pridefest, the Bead and Button Show, and as I already mentioned, Locust Street Festival. The main “hub” of this show is located just South of Bradford Beach, but anywhere...and I do mean ANYWHERE...along the Milwaukee Lakefront will suffice to catch a glimpse of this show.
I’ve seen it standing up near the War Memorial Museum, sitting down in Veterans Park, and this year, at Locust Street Festival. For the strict purpose of catching all of the air show maneuvers though, I’d have to recommend setting up a spot in Veterans Park. There’s plenty of room, bathrooms nearby, and as long as you have a couple of chairs and a cooler, you’re good to go! And while you’re waiting for the next plane to fly by, you can entertain yourself with the kite flyers...it’s all good! I should mention that there is a “Water Show” that goes along with this, but you’d definitely need to be close to the main area to catch any of that. I have never seen it, so can’t comment on it. To read more about the show, visit the official website (opens new window). Take the kids, set up a picnic spot, and hang out for the afternoon! Enjoy your city!
