Milwaukee Dog Parks

Dog Friendly Parks Milwaukee

There are lots of Milwaukee dog parks to choose from, which means that thankfully, you can find a park relatively near your home no matter what part of the county you reside in. Personally, I don’t utilize the off-leash dog parks as my baby “does not play well with others” but I regularly take her to the Milwaukee River Parkway, from Good Hope to Bender for her daily walks. I’m surprised by how much cleaner and well-kept this park is than even nice residential areas! I think it must be the “Pick up after your Pet” rule that dog friendly parks Milwaukee enforces. You’ll find a “pile” here and there, but for the most part, there are responsible owners walking their dogs on leashes, and picking up after their messes.

Ok, ok....every once in a while there is a person who lets their dog off leash. But I have to say I haven’t seen that in quite awhile! (Annoying...but rare.)

So first let’s talk about the “Off-Leash” Milwaukee dog parks!

Yee Ha!! I’m so jealous of the people that can take their dogs their for a good “romp” with other canines!! What a great way to burn off some energy! (For the dog, not you...well, that is unless you have a disobedient Jack Russell Terrier like my friend Jill has! She had that critter running all over the park!)

The Off-Leash parks that I’ve been to have a large open area where the dogs can run and play together, and then there are walking paths where folks can walk their dogs off-leash. Other parks only have large exercise areas. These parks are generally set far enough back from the main roads, or have fences around the area that keep the dogs contained. Each area is a little different, though, and you should inspect them all before deciding on the one that works best for you and your pooch!

Here are a couple of the more popular Off-Leash Milwaukee dog parks:

Runway & other dog exercise areas (opens new window)

  • 1214 E. Rawson Avenue
  • Fenced park with a nice exercise area and loop trails. There is also a fenced area for puppies and small dogs to play safely away from the larger dogs. Permits are required for daily or annual admission. See the website for more information about Runway and a few of the smaller exercise areas throughout the city.

Granville Off-Leash Dog Park (opens new window)

  • 11718 W. Good Hope Place
  • This park is more woodsy and is not fenced in. It is also free of charge!
  • Dog Park at the Medical Grounds
  • first driveway East of 92nd and Watertown Plank Road on the North side of the street – same entry as the Ronald McDonald House
  • This must not be one of the official dog friendly parks Milwaukee sponsors because it is not on the website, or in the brochure, but it is one of my favorites. Access is free, there’s a large exercise area, and a large wooded area with a few trails behind that. It is unsure how long this park will be accessible to dogs and owners, as there is always talk of construction, but for now...Enjoy!

Katherine K. Carpenter Dog Park in Mequon (opens new window)

  • 801 W. Zedler Lane in Mequon
  • This park is located just North of County Line Road and Port Washington Road, East of I43. It’s not in Milwaukee County, but is so close and such a nice park I had to include it. This is probably my most favorite – no admission fees, nice exercise area, and several trails through the woods. The park is not fenced in, but is located in a quite suburban area. Very nice!

That's about it for the Milwaukee dog parks with off-leash canine fun! Want to know more about your on-leash options? check out the on-leash options here.

Enjoy the city of Milwaukee with your pooch!
