The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra

The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (MSO) has become well known, both in Milwaukee and around the country, for its level of excellence.

As indicated on their website, the MSO’s mission is:

To comfort, educate, entertain and exhilarate the human soul through events of cultural significance, relevance and artistic challenge; to embrace, preserve and foster our musical heritage; and to enhance the vibrancy of our community.

Aaahhhh...so true...

The orchestra engages in many community outreach efforts and has held Youth and Teen Concert Series for years.

I remember taking many field trips to the MSO during my grade school years, and I always enjoyed them. Even as a child, who didn’t care for classical music, I always found the concerts to be so relaxing. Relaxing, calming activities for kids are so hard to come by these days, aren't they?

The Youth Concerts are geared towards kids from the ages of 3 through 8 and last 45 minutes in length. The Teen Concerts are geared towards kids from the 7th through the 12th grades and last one hour in length.

Of course, what would the orchestra be without a chorus?

The Milwaukee Symphony Chorus was brought on in the 1970’s and has been recognized as one of the best choruses in the country. This chorus is comprised of 150 VOLUNTEERS and those who are interested in joining this talented group are encouraged to participate in auditions that are held twice a year.

There is also information on the website regarding auditions to join the orchestra in a full-time capacity or as a substitute or an extra.

And then, there are those of us who aren’t quite that musically inclined, but we can certainly enjoy an evening with Beethoven, Gershwin, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky or the like!

The official website and address are as follows:

Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (opens new window )
700 North Water Street
Suite 700
Milwaukee, WI
Main Office (414) 291-6010
Box Office (414) 291-7605

And don’t think it’s only about the classics!! Country Singer Wynonna Judd is coming to the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra on May 4th! Tickets range from $26.25 - $66.25, which is very reasonable for an event of cultural significance”!

The MSO’s home is at the Milwaukee Performing Arts Center - Uihlein Hall.

Enjoy!
