Have you seen the Milwaukee Zoo lately?
You might be surprised...

The Milwaukee Zoo can be found at:

10001 West Bluemound Road
Milwaukee, WI 53226
(414) 257-5412
Official Zoo Website (opens new window)

This zoo is recognized as one of the country’s finest zoological attractions! (If you've lived here your entire life, you may find that as hard to believe as I did!) Suffice it to say, the zoo has been through major changes over the years, and the improvements are evident!

The zoo is part of the Milwaukee County Parks Commission and is one of the top zoos in the nation.

Personally, I have always had a difficult time supporting “zoos” in general because of my belief that animals should be maintained in their natural habitats. I do have to admit, however, that the philosophy and vision of the Milwaukee Zoo has changed my opinion on this.

Our zoo is an ethically responsible and humane environment for the animals housed there. It is an educational environment for people of all ages in our community, and teaches a respect and admiration for animals in our ecosystem, emphasizing the importance that animals play on our planet.

The Milwaukee Zoo is home to several endangered species, and through it’s efforts is working to ensure that these species remain on the earth for generations to come.

Additions, renovations and expansions over the years have helped to ensure that the animals are living in surroundings that are as comfortable and amiable to their natural habitats as possible.

All in all, I’m quite proud of our zoo, and I feel comfortable taking my nieces there.

The Zoo is host to some unique activities every year such as ”Zoo a’la carte”, opportunities to meet with Santa, and other specials throughout the year.
