Catch Some Winter Rays at The Mitchell Park Domes
Aaaahhhh..."The Domes!" The Mitchell Park Domes are one of the many Milwaukee attractions worth visiting. While they are wonderful to visit all year round, I particularly enjoy this location in the late fall and throughout the winter months. Talk about a great way to cure the winter blues!
The Domes are located just North of National on 27th Street (see below). More information on hours, events, and pricing can be found at the Official Domes Website (opens new window). Or better yet, check out the Friends of the Mitchell Park Domes Website (opens new window) - this site gives a lot of detail about upcoming events, and making any necessary online reservations. Clearly these folks truly are "Friends" of the Mitchell Park Domes!
The Domes house three different climates – the Desert Dome, the Tropical Dome and the Floral Show Dome (or the "seasonal" dome). I think each one is self-explanatory, and I have to say that by far my favorite is the Tropical Dome. Nothing like being able to take a mini-tropical vacation in the middle of the city! The Domes are available for use for wedding ceremonies both during regular operating hours and after hours. See the website for more information on this. Tickets are fairly reasonable - $6.50 for adults in 2010. However, Milwaukee County residents can access the Domes for FREE on Mondays between the hours of 9am – noon, with the exception of holidays. I wouldn't classify the Domes as one of the MOST amazing of all of Milwaukee's attractions, however they are truly worth the visit!

Tuesdays and Thursdays the Domes are open until 9pm with regular “light shows” every couple of hours. If you’re looking for a romantic touch to a date some evening...this may be worth looking into. Also, be sure to check out the Domes on Thursday evenings – the Floral Show Dome offers different music events from October through March, with the exception of December. There are also events like a New Year's Eve celebration, and Restaurants Under Glass which is an annual food tasting function that features several great local restaurants. There's a lot more to the Domes than meets the eye, and probably more to do there than you even knew about! Check it out for yourself!
