Ozaukee Interurban Trail

The Ozaukee Interurban Trail is a paved bike trail that runs from Brown Deer Road (at the Northern edge of Milwaukee County) through Thiensville, Cedarburg, Grafton, Port Washington, and past the town of Belgium to the Northern most point of Ozaukee County.

The beautiful Ozaukee Interurban Trail.

I’ve only taken it from Brown Deer Road to Cedarburg, which seems to be a bit over 1/3 of the path. That takes me about 45 minutes, although I have to admit, I don’t bike for speed, I bike for leisure. :)

This is a beautiful bike path and I’m so glad I found it! One of these days I’m going to bike the entire Ozaukee Interurban Trail. I’ll need to make sure I have enough time and enough bathroom breaks along the way to do it. :)

Actually, I’ve already found one rest stop with a portable toilet along my route just prior to reaching Cedarburg. I love that!

This trail is very popular, and you will see lots of other bikers, walkers, and skaters along the way. Watch out for the cross-country skiers in winter!

The beautiful Ozaukee Interurban Trail.

Everyone is very respectful and follows the “rules of the road” so it should be enjoyable for you. Be sure to pay attention to the streets that you’ll have to cross periodically. Some are particularly busy, like Mequon Road, and the drivers aren’t paying attention to who’s coming off of the bike trail.

You’ll pass parks along the way, recommended birding locations, residential houses, and all sorts of great scenery. I love this trail because I can bike for as long as I want to, and I won’t run out of bike path. Other paths require me to turn around and ride them back and forth if I want to stay on the path and avoid busy traffic.

In Cedarburg, you will have to take a very brief detour on city streets, but then it's back to all trail!

Birding locations are marked on the Ozaukee Interurban Trail.

There are several places to park along the way. I park down the road from the Brown Deer Police Department, in the parking lot for the Brown Deer pond, and then I ride around to Brown Deer Road, and catch the bike path immediately East of the train tracks. There’s also parking right next to the path off of Mequon Road. The bike path follows the course of the train tracks, crossing over it from time to time.

If you can find the train tracks, you can find the path!

If you like biking, you need to check out this trail. A few minor hills, but overall, fairly straight, smooth terrain.

Enjoy your trip!
