Palermos Pizza

Palermos Pizza is a locally owned frozen pizza business and cafe that prides itself on making the best darn frozen pizzas in the business!!! And I have to say, that they do it pretty well.

I've tried a LOT of frozen pizza...A LOT! I'd prefer to eat pizza several times a week (actually, I DO eat pizza several times a week) and this pizza ranks high on my list. My 2 favs are the 'Primo Thin' and the 'Stone Baked'. You'll truly be surprised at how good this pizza is if you haven't tried it before!

The Palermos Pizza tour isn't anything to scream about, but as far as Milwaukee tourism goes, it's a nice way to spend an hour or two, and interesting to learn a bit about one of Milwaukee's native companies.

My Palermos Pizza tour was given by an employee whose been with the company for 24 years!

A friend of mine is extra-conscientious about buying Palermos to help support this local company, and that helped peak my interest in this place. And besides that, I ordered a Groupon (opens new window) for 2 tour tickets for $5...can't beat that! So I figured, what the heck! Let's give this place a go!

Palermos has grown from a small restaurant, started by a husband and wife team from Palermos, Sicily. It is now quite the impressive factory, that not only makes a variety of great frozen pizza and provides lots of local jobs, but also prides itself on being environmentally responsible. They recycle all of their plastic and paper at the plant!!

I was especially impressed to see that there's a separate portion of the factory dedicated to making organic pizzas. I give this a big two thumbs up! Just because you want to eat organic, doesn't mean you want to be eating hummus and tofu every night!

So what to expect on a Palermos Pizza tour...well, the regular one-person price is $5 which includes the tour and a slice of pizza (of your choosing, might I add...they ask you what type of pizza you want when you call to make the reservation...it was pretty freaky - when I first arrived, they knew me by name, and then remembered what type of pizza I had requested after the tour! Wow!)

The Palermos Pizza tour comes with a tasty slice of pizza, enjoyed in the cafe at the end of the tour.

The Palermos Pizza Tour consists of a 20 minute video where you learn all about the history of the business, and then a walk through of the factory from the second story windows.

It's not much, but like I said, it's a nice way to spend an afternoon. And the price of the tour is well worth the slice of pizza at the end.

I went on my tour in winter, so unfortunately didn't get to enjoy the outdoor patio, which looks like a nice place for lunch during warmer weather.

While I was there, there was a group of school kids who each got to take a clump of frozen dough home with them! I'm like, "WHAT?!?!" To say that some of us "bigger kids" were a bit disappointed that we didn't get to take dough home too is an understatement!

Word of advice...if you want the dough, take a kid with you. Your own, your friends, a neighbor kid...doesn't matter, just find one and get your dough! :)

To schedule a tour, visit the website (opens new window) for contact information and tour days - which are limited. There's also a link to join la famiglia (opens new window) which will get you coupons, and perhaps even an invitation to sample new pizzas!! They said on the tour that invitations go out on occasion for folks to come in and sample new varities.

I'm totally hoping for a call on this! :)

As always, thank you for visiting this site and reading about all of the fun things to do in Milwaukee! Ciao!
