Woooo Hooo!!!! Summerfest Milwaukee!!!
This is one of Milwaukee’s largest yearly activities, and is even said to be the ”World’s Largest Musical Festival!”
Seriously, could it be the largest in the world? I don’t know, but I CAN tell you this - this event is huge! (of course I’m talking right now to tourists of the city, not residents – ALL of the residents of the city know about Summerfest Milwaukee...right?)
I’m going to refer you straight to the official Summerfest website for all of the information about this great event, pictures from the previous years’ excitement, employment opportunities during the week and a half long festival, and so much more!
If you've got any great stories or photos of Summerfest that you'd like to share, please contact me and we'll consider placing it on this site!
I have to say that Summerfest has really improved over the last few years. I’ve been attending this festival since I was about 10 years old.
Back then, the “main stage” was an open-air arena with worn out wooden benches!
No reservations for those performances – it was strictly a first come, first serve sort of deal, and it was straight-up MAYHEM!
(It was truly awesome! I think the best time I had was at an INXS concert that was rained out – it doesn’t get any better than that for a 15 year old "wild child" :)
Nowadays the main stage is known as the Marcus Amphitheater, and there are a gazillion other smaller stages throughout the grounds offering music from:
I attended Summerfest on July 4th in 2009, and have to admit that I hadn’t been for years prior to that.
The crowds at one point had become so unbearable that it wasn’t worth trying to push your way around the festival...you really couldn’t even enjoy your visit.
I've known many people who stopped attending for this very reason.
Much to my surprise, I found the atmosphere to be so enjoyable! The crowds weren’t too overwhelming, the food was awesome, the variety of drinks available had improved, and I had the best time!
If it’s been a few years since you’ve gone, you may find yourself as surprised as I was.
Summerfest always runs over the 4th of July, so if you're in town around this time, you'll have a chance to swing on by!
Hope to see you there!
